(Crime and Punishment) Rare Circa 1867 Albumen Print CDV Titled "Prisoners in the Ohio Penitentiary on Their Way to Dinner;" photographed by Wm. Oldroyd. Columbus, O[hio]: W. Oldroyd, circa 1867. Albumen photograph measuring 2-1/8" x 3-9/16" on card mount measuring 2-3/8" x 3-7/8" with title and photographer's imprint printed in black to mount verso. The photograph shows a large group of prisoners in striped prison uniforms, standing within the walls of the Ohio State Penitentiary in Columbus, Ohio; both mount and photograph with light spotting. The condition of the CDV is: 6/10 - VERY GOOD; Moderate or mild condition issues that attract the eye under normal viewing conditions. RARE
"William Oldroyd, Photographer, born in England in 1817 or 1820 and active in Mount Vernon (Knox), in 1850. He settled about 1867 in Columbus (Franklin), where he sold frames and photographic supplies and specialized in architectural and view work until at least 1888." --Haverstock, et al.
