Hand-colored proof card of an allegorical figure of a barefooted Lady Liberty wearing a wreath of flowers, sitting with her right hand resting on a harp and her left hand extended over sheaves of wheat and a sickle; under the harp is an overflowing cornucopia and a battle axe; behind Lady Liberty are two flags crossing, one being an American flag with thirteen stars, the other being solid green; in the background is a three-masted ship; printed above the hand-colored design is the word "UNION," printed below is the following poem: "In view of the guilt and the treason the godess [sic] of liberty sighs; let us up and defend her in season, and bring back the joy of her eyes. Bear the stars and the stripes o'er you proudly, nor let your march be delayed, till the foe flies in terror before you, when charged by the IRISH BRIGADE;" printed on white glazed cardstock that is bright and clean with minimal, if any signs of wear; unused patriotic cover, 3-5/16" x 5-13/16", with matching hand-colored design, with minor mounting residue to backside, is also bright and clean for what is a lovely example of the published patriotic cover.
