(Black Panther Party) CLEAVER FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA . . . POWER TO THE PEOPLE . . . BLACK POWER TO BLACK PEOPLE [1968 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN POSTER]. [California]: The Black Panther and Peace & Freedom Parties, [1968]. 16-15/16" x 21-15/16". Campaign poster printed in black and white with a portrait of Eldridge Cleaver, who had joined the Black Panther Party in 1966 after being released from prison, and was nominated as a presidential candidate two years later, running on the Peace & Freedom Party ticket. Although he was not technically old enough to run being just 32 years old, he still appeared on a number of the ballots. A Cleaver presidency would have been a unique one seeing as how Cleaver had jumped bail in November 1968 fleeing to Cuba, before eventually settling in Algeria, not returning to the United States until 1975; very faint horizontal crease and small area of slight toning to margin at lower right corner. The condition of the poster is NEAR FINE. Only one copy located on OCLC/WorldCat (University of California, San Diego). RARE #001088
