(Toy and Movable Books) A TRIP TO THE NORTH POLE: A STORY OF ADVENTURE IN THE ARCTIC by William G. Turner. Akron, Ohio; Chicago; New York: The Saalfield Publishing Company, [1910]. FIRST EDITION. 4to - 10-3/4" x 8-1/8". Red cloth backed, color pictorial glazed paper covered board front and plain uncovered board back with light wear to the extremities and a brass brad paper fastener through the book at the center of the spine holding the separated text block in place for what remains a very nice copy of the book. Plain endpapers with a name which appears to have been written by a child on FFE. The story is about a group of intrepid explorers who set off to be the first to find the North Pole; many adventures follow including an unexpected six month stay among a colony of natives who live in ice houses while the explorers await the return of spring, and with it, the return of sunlight. The book features four red, black and white illustrations on 3/4 length pages; each of these are hinged onto a page that when lifted, reveals a striking chromolithograph backdrop with attached chromolithograph telescoping three dimensional scene; the four pages revealed when the hinged pages are lifted feature green, black and white illustrations; all pop-up scenes are complete and function as intended. Text block's original staple binding is intact and holding firmly; as previously stated, the text block is no longer attached to the covers. The condition of the book is VERY GOOD. Only three copies located on OCLC/WorldCat. EXCEEDINGLY RARE # 000764
