(Upton, Florence K.) illustrator. THE ADVENTURES OF TWO DUTCH DOLLS AND A "GOLLIWOGG"; pictures by Florence K. Upton; words by Bertha Upton. London; New York: Longmans, Green & Co., [1895]. FIRST EDITION. Oblong 4to - 8-5/8" x 11-3/16". Light brown cloth backed color pictorial glazed paper covered boards with light rubbing to the cloth, light to moderate wear to the corners, very minor touches of rubbing to the edges, and light marking and soiling to the front cover for what is an exhaustive (exhausting?) list of condition points for what is still a nice copy of the book. Swan motif endpapers with darkening to the FFEP and RFEP. 64 pp. Gift inscription dated Xmas 1902 in pencil to title page. The book, written in verse by Bertha Upton, sees the Dutch dolls come alive, meet many new toy shop friends including the "Golliwogg," attend a dance, escape the toy shop, run into a little trouble, and finally return home none the worse for wear; illustrated by Florence K. Upton, Bertha's daughter, with thirty-one wonderful full page chromolithographs, plus numerous sepia drawings within text; occasional spotting and thumb marks internally. The condition of the book is VERY GOOD. # 000857
