(Drugs) Vintage Randy's Insta Roach "Wired" Rolling Papers. "Made in San Francisco." San Francisco, CA: Instaroach Int'l, circa 1975. Unopened red bordered white paper envelope measuring 2-3/16" x 3-1/2" with titles printed in black and yellow and an illustration of a red-eyed cockroach reclining on a cloud and holding a lit joint by an attached wire printed in black, red, white and yellow to the front of the envelope/package; envelope flaps and back panel printed in black.
Insta Roach rolling papers were the original rolling papers to feature a thin, stainless steel wire running the length of the paper (U.S. Patent # 4033358). The wire enabled the user to smoke the entire joint without having to use a roach clip. The company's slogan, "Kiss Your Roaches Goodbye!" is printed on one of the envelope's flaps. Each package contains "One Dozen Quality Leaves" of these state-of-the-art drug paraphernalia of the time (mid-1970s).
Randy's Insta Roach, originally known as InstaRoach, re-branded as just Randy's in the 1980s. This change was a strategic move to avoid political scrutiny amidst anti-drug campaigns like "Just Say No." The original name InstaRoach, along with its labeling, was impacted during this period, leading to the removal of the very adorable "stoned roach" imagery and other similar elements.
The condition of these New Old Stock (NOS) packages of vintage InstaRoach rolling papers, straight from San Francisco, are AS NEW, although the adhesive on the individual leaves of rolling paper has degraded to the point where it no longer is working as intended (or so I have been told). VERY SCARCE; THESE ARE INTERESTING CONVERSATION PIECES AND MAKE GREAT GIFTS; AND ARE TOTALLY WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION. # 001275
