(Early English) THE FISHES GRAND GALA. A COMPANION TO THE "PEACOCK AT HOME," &c. &c.: PARTS I and II by Mrs. Cockle, Author of The Juvenile Journal, &c. London: Printed for C. Chapple ... B. Tabart ... J. Harris ... Darton and Harvey ... and all other Booksellers, 1808. FIRST EDITION. 24mo - 5-1/16" x 4-1/16". Sewn tan paper wrappers with decorative border, decoration and titles printed in black to front wrappers, and decorative border surrounding publisher's advertisement printed in black to back wrappers with minor rubbing along spine, minor wrinkling, and a few very minor spots of foxing for what is a very lovely set of the books. Two volumes: each 16 pp., [6] leaves of plates including frontispieces. This story, which is told in verse, being in the same vein as "The Butterfly's Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast" and "The Peacock at Home" moves all the festivities under water; the letterpress text is illustrated with a total of twelve (six per volume) copper engravings after William Mulready; both text and illustrations printed in black; bookplate on front wrapper verso in each volume; previous owner's name neatly written on first (blank) page in each volume, the frontispiece being the verso of this blank page; minor offsetting and a few scattered light spots of foxing to Part I; minor offsetting, a small light stain effecting two leaves and foxing to two plates to Part II. The condition of both books is VERY GOOD +. RARE # 000875
