(J. Harris) publisher. THE PEACOCK "AT HOME," BY A LADY. TO WHICH IS ADDED THE BUTTERFLY'S BALL; AN ORIGINAL POEM BY MR. ROSCOE. London: J. Harris and Son, Corner of St. Paul's Church-Yard, 1822. FIRST COMBINED EDITION [Moon 217]. 12mo - 6-15/46" x 4-3/16". Tan pictorial stiff card wrappers with decoration and titles printed in black to both front and back wrappers with wear along spine, a small abrasion effecting three letters in the word, "ADDED" on front wrapper, and minor soiling for what is a lovely copy of the book. 24 pp., [1] p. publisher's advertisement, [4] leaves of plates. "The Peacock 'At Home'", which is told in verse, was written by Catherine Ann Turner Dorset, although it was published anonymously, being attributed only as, "By A Lady." The story was written as a sequel to William Roscoe's Butterfly's Ball (which is included at the end of this volume), only this time the story is centered on the world of birds, not that of insects; illustrated with hand colored title page vignette and eight hand colored wood engravings (two engravings on one side of four leaves); previous owner's name neatly penned to title page verso; offsetting to illustrations and minor spotting throughout. The condition of the book is VERY GOOD. Only four copies of this combined edition located on OCLC/WorldCat, and only one of those four being the first edition (University of Cambridge: Cambridge University Library). EXCEEDINGLY RARE # 000851
