Staple-bound tan paper wrappers with a brightly colored chromolithographed paste-label by Peto of Alice and her fellow Alice's Adventures in Wonderland characters to front wrapper and an ink stamp "Cotton Made in Ireland" to plain back wrapper with some light, unobtrusive staining to wrappers for is a very lovely copy of the book. [8] leaves: color illustrations.
Each leaf with a captioned color printed handkerchief by Peto, measuring approximately 9-1/4" x 9-1/4" of scenes from Alice in Wonderland, mounted to the recto of each blank leaf; each handkerchief is signed "Gladys Peto" in the print. The captions on the 8 hankies are as follows: Old Father William and the Caterpillar; the Dodo and the Caucus Race; the Mad Hatter's Tea Party; the Cheshire Cat and the Duchess; the White Rabbit's House; the Trial and the Awakening; "Will You? Won't You? Join the Dance?" and the Queen's Croquet Ground; internally in fine condition. The condition of the hankie book is NEAR FINE. Only four copies of this title located on OCLC/WorldCat, but only one of these (Bryn Mawr College) with eight printed handkerchiefs like this copy; the other three copies with only six handkerchiefs each. EXCEEDINGLY RARE AND A VERY LOVELY COPY INDEED. # 001267
