(Black Interest) (Racism and Racial Stereotypes in Children's Literature) Uzarski, Adolf. DIE 10 KLEINEN NEGERBUBEN IN AFRIKA IN HEITEREN REIMEN U. VIELEN BUNTEN BILDERN (NO. 197) [THE 10 LITTLE NEGRO BOYS IN AFRICA IN CHEERFUL RHYMES AND MANY COLORFUL PICTURES]. [Mainz]: [Joseph Scholz], [1925]. FIRST EDITION. Oblong 32mo - 4-1/4" x 5". Color pictorial glazed paper covered boards with minor toning and spotting along the bottom and fore edge of front cover, and minor toning and one tiny spot of discoloration to back cover for what is a lovely copy of the book. Leporello measuring 3-15/16" x 72", folded into [15] sections of chromolithographic plates, the first of which is pasted to inside front cover. This story is a continuation of Uzarski's "The Story of the 10 Little Negro Boys," No. 196 in Scholz' '"Klipp-Klapp' chain books" series. In the current offering, the story counts down from 10 to 1 as the boys are eliminated in various African specific manners, e.g., eaten by a lion, hit by a fallen coconut, carried away by an elephant, etc.; the colorful expressionist drawings by Uzarski are all in fine condition, with only the slightest age-tanning keeping the plates from appearing as originally printed. Uzarski's illustrations in this book are said to be one of the very few convincing examples of expressionist art in children's literature. The condition of the book is VERY GOOD +. Only one copy located on OCLC/WorldCat (Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, Leipzig). EXCEEDINGLY RARE # 001137
