(Punch and Judy) PUNCH'S MERRY PRANKS. Leipsic: Friedrich Volckmar; London: William Tegg & Co., and A. & S. Joseph, Myers & Co., [between 1850-1860]. FIRST EDITION. 4to - 10-5/8" x 8-3/16". Brown cloth backed, brown paper covered boards with an extensive and elaborate wood-engraved decoration and lettering all printed in black, identical in design to the title-page, to front cover, and a small central wood-engraved ornament within a three line border, all printed in black, to back cover; rubbing and wear to the corners and edges, and light soiling for what is a lovely copy of the book. Plain endpapers with Henry Frederick 6th Marquess of Bath bookplate on front paste-down. 30, [4] pp. From the head of the title-page, we have "A Little Play for Little People", all told in verse, with an interesting cast of characters and with Punch up to his usual antics; by the end of the two act play, it seems that no one was any worse for wear and that everyone had learned some worthwhile lesson from all the chaotic action; illustrated with a sumptuous hand-colored wood-engraved title-page plus fourteen wonderful hand-colored wood-engravings within text; [2] pp. publisher's advertisements with corrective slip "A. & S. Joseph, Myers, & Co." pasted over text. Internally the book is fine. The condition of the book is VERY GOOD -. Only three copies located on OCLC/WorldCat. EXCEEDINGLY RARE # 000781
