(Arctic Expeditions) Brabant, Else van (pseudonym of E. J. de Moulin van Harlingen). Avonturen van Nansen aan de Noordpool [Adventures of Nansen at the North Pole]. Amsterdam: J. Vlieger, circa 1896. Publisher's original glazed card wrappers with titles and a large image of the Norwegian Arctic explorer, Fridtjof Nansen, printed in colors to front wrapper, and another image of Nansen on skis being pulled across the ice by a dog, with his ship in the ice in the distance to back wrapper; with rubbing and wear along the spine fold, including a split to the lower 2-1/4" of the same, otherwise the book is in an excellent state of preservation. [12] pp. including wrappers; illustrations. A Dutch language children's picture book about the Norwegian polymath's (Fridtjof Nansen's) Fram expedition quest to reach the North Pole. Although Nansen failed to reach the North Pole, his techniques of polar travel and his innovations in equipment and clothing influenced a generation of subsequent Arctic and Antarctic expeditions; illustrated throughout with both black and white lithographs (6 pp.) and color lithographs (6 pp.); internally with a few minor finger smudges and a total of 2 or 3 spots of foxing for what is a lovely copy of this beautiful Dutch language children's picture book. The condition of the book is VERY GOOD. Only one copy located on OCLC/WorldCat (Koninklijke Bibliotheek). EXCEEDINGLY RARE
Note: Fridtjof Nansen was a fascinating historical character, well worth researching and learning about for those not familiar with him and his accomplishments. # 001257
