(Black Panther Party) The Black Panther Black Community News Service, Vol III, No. 14, Saturday, July 26, 1969. San Francisco, CA: The Black Panther Party Ministry of Information, July 26, 1969. FIRST EDITION. Elephant folio - 17-1/2" x 11-3/8". 24 pp. The Black Panther Black Community News Service was a weekly newspaper published by the Black Panther Party between 1967-1980. Each issue featured a range of articles and op-eds on the activities of the party, black power, police brutality, communism, party leadership, etc. The back of most issues featured revolutionary artwork by the Black Panther Minister of Culture, the graphic artist, Emory Douglas. The front page of this issue has the headline "United Against Fascism" over a photographic image of "Charles R. Garry and William Kunstler at U.F.A.F. Conference." The corresponding article found at the centerfold spread reads "I For One Do Not Intend To Practice Law And Say, 'Heil Hitler' To The Judge, Charles R. Garry, Defender of Political Prisoners and Human Rights." Additional articles found inside include: "Omaha, City of Fascism," "Astro Pigs on the Moon: A $34,000,000 Moondoggie," "The Heroic Palestinian Women," "San Diego Breakfast Moves Ahead Despite Continued Harassment," "Black Youth Murdered by Off Duty Pig," the cartoon strip "The Black Panther Fascist Funnies Presents: The Rise and Fall of Mickey Mouse by Blood Brother," and a poignant illustrated version of the Black Panthers' 10 point "What We Want." The back cover features an illustration by Emory Douglas under the heading "Whatever Is Good for the Oppressor Has Got To Be Bad for Us" of a rocket ship on the surface of what is possibly the moon, decorated with the unmistakable stars and stripes of the United States, with the capsule shaped like a pig, and two pig policemen guards/slave masters unloading the spaceship's cargo of bound and shackled Black slaves; the paper is age-tanned and folded as issued, with minor rubbing along the horizontal fold on page 1, resulting in wear where the horizontal and vertical folds intersect and three tiny finger smudges to lower margin of page 1. The condition of the newspaper is VERY GOOD. SCARCE # 001223
