(United States: Civil War 1861-1865) Morrow, Maud E. RECOLLECTIONS OF THE CIVIL WAR. Lockland, Ohio: John C. Morrow, 1901. FIRST EDITION. 12mo - 7-11/16" x 5-3/8". Tan stiff paper wrappers with titles and decoration printed in black to front wrapper with minor creases to lower fore edge corners and other extremely minor signs of handling and wear for what is a lovely copy of the book. 48 pp., plus [1] leaf of plates: portrait of author. The cover title of the book is "Recollections of the Civil War From A Child's Point of View." As this title would suggest, the book's author, as an adult, writes of her experiences and memories from the perspective of her eight year old self. In late October, 1862, the author, along with her infant sister and mother, take leave from their home in Bainbridge, Ohio, heading south at the behest of her father, an Assistant Surgeon with the 43rd Ohio Infantry Regiment. He had taken gravely ill after the Battle of Corinth, and called his family to his side. For the next few months, they lived in hospitals and hotels, side by side with doctors, nurses, soldiers and negro contraband, moving as the dictates of war would demand. Though the times were difficult, the author looked back on her experiences with fond nostalgia; lower fore edge corners of text block with a gentle bend. The condition of the book is NEAR FINE. RARE; and a fascinating perspective of the United States Civil War. # 001135
