(Wild West Shows) BUFFALO BILL'S WILD WEST AND CONGRESS OF ROUGH RIDERS OF THE WORLD. HISTORICAL SKETCHES AND PROGRAMME. [New York City]: J. & H. Mayer, Publishers of Official Programme and Book of Historical Sketches, (1901). FIRST EDITION. 8vo - 9-7/16" x 7-5/16". Staple-bound color pictorial paper wrappers with a short tear and tiny touches of wear to the tail of spine for what is otherwise a brilliant near pristine copy of the book. [14], [3]-64, [8] pp. The first four pages are tipped in, containing advertising matter from Illinois businesses. The book contains the "Official Programme" for the 1901 season of "Buffalo Bill's" Wild West Show which entailed amazingly, twenty-one separate acts or events! The majority of the book is devoted to "Historical Sketches." These start with an essay titled Hon. W. F. Cody - ("Buffalo Bill"); additional sketches include: Johnnie Baker - The Young Marksman, Annie Oakley, The Rifle as an Aid to Civilization, Origin of the Name "Rough Riders," etc.; advertisements include those for: Pure Quaker Oats, Pond's Extract, H. & R. Firearms, Winchester Rifles and Ammunition, etc.; illustrated throughout with black and white drawings and photographs. The condition of the book is FINE. Only one copy located on OCLC/WorldCat (Yale University Library). EXCEEDINGLY RARE; especially in such nice condition. #000934
