[1] leaf, plus [12] thick album leaves holding a total of 96 tintypes. This is an exquisite gem size tintype photo album with 96 tintype photographs measuring approximately 3\/4\" x 1\" with approximately 5\/8\" x 13\/16\" visible through the oval openings in the album pages. The portraits run the gamut from young to old in both females and males, including infants, toddlers, young girls, young boys, girls, boys, young women, young men, women, men, elderly women and elderly men; several portraits with subtle hand-tinting to the faces. Some of the more interesting subjects are a fancily dresses little girl, a cross-eyed woman, a cross-eyed man, females with fancy hair styles and men with beards. Rare tintypes in the album include several 3\/4 length portraits, portraits of two people on the same tintype including one with a mother and daughter dressed in winter coats and with their hands in muffs, one with twin girls and one with a brother and a sister. One extremely rare tintype photograph in the album is a family portrait with five people on a single tintype.\u003cbr\u003eAccording to the National Museum of American History website, \"[t]he NMAH Photo History Collection (PHC) has over 3,000 tintype photographs dating from the beginning of the process in 1856 to the present. ... The great majority of tintype photographs are studio portraits, including the very popular \"Gem\" size (about 3\/4\" x 1\"). Almost every gem tintype in the PHC is an individual head and shoulders portraits, the only exceptions seen being a full length portrait and a head and shoulders portrait of a couple.\" One tintype photograph with a diagonal crease, the other 95 are in near pristine condition.
