(African American Interest) Bashful Billy and Sister (code no. 5743); Rare Antique Postcard Depicting Two Young African-American Children. [Detroit, Michigan]: Detroit Photographic Co., (1902). 5-1/2" x 3-1/4". Un-posted "Photochrom" postcard in EXCELLENT condition. The Detroit Photographic Co. was launched as a photographic publishing company in the late 1890's. They obtained the North American rights to what was a new Swiss photolithographic process ("Photochrom") that could produce, in quantity, color prints from black and white photographs that retained their photographic realism. Since color photography did not exist at the time, holding the exclusive rights to this process gave the company a significant advantage over its competitors. Offered here is a beautiful example of a postcard produced with this revolutionary method. # 000977
