This is a lovely alphabet book printed entirely on linen with each letter of the alphabet printed in upper case form in black and red within a wonderful quarter-page chromolithograph related to a key word that starts with that particular letter; each letter/chromolithograph pair is additionally paired with a four-line verse containing the key word and that describes what is going on in the illustration; most key word are occupations or descriptions of a person although a few are just objects, e.g., "C was a Captain all covered with lace, With sword and with trinkets to rattle; He was fond of fine clothes, but you need not suppose That he ever took part in a battle."; text pages printed in black; each four-line verse illustrated with an additional black, red and white drawing; in total there are eight pages of chromolithographs and four pages of text.
