(Silhouettes) ORIGINAL PEN AND INK DRAWING FEATURING THREE AFRICAN AMERICAN CHILDREN IN SILHOUETTE; drawn by Dorothy Cox. [Red Oak, Iowa]: [Thos. D. Murphy Calendar Co.], [1933]. This original pen and ink drawing by Dorothy Cox, which measures 8-1/2" H x 5-1/2" W, was used on Thos. D. Murphy Calendar Co.'s "Old Man Ribber Series" of advertising calendars in 1934; this series featured wonderful silhouette drawings of African American children with captions written in an unflattering, stereotypical Southern African American dialect. This drawing, which is named "Febwary Stahs" was used as the calendar's month of February illustration; signed by Cox on lower right of card; card lightly soiled. A salesman's sample of the published drawing, which measures 5" H x 3-1/2" W and is printed in black and silver is included with this offering; items are from the Thos. D. Murphy Calendar Co. archives. The condition of the original drawing is VERY GOOD. The condition of the printed salesman's sample is FINE. # 000798
