FIRST EDITION. Elephant folio - 17-1/2" x 11-3/8". 24 pp. The Black Panther Black Community News Service was a weekly newspaper published by the Black Panther Party between 1967-1980. Each issue featured a range of articles and op-eds on the activities of the party, black power, police brutality, communism, and party leadership. The back of most issues featured revolutionary artwork by the Black Panther Minister of Culture, the graphic artist Emory Douglas. The front page of this issue features a photo-montage of Bobby Seale, Chairman of the Black Panther Party, under the headline "KIDNAPPED;" pp. 12-13 and p. 24 feature the transcript of an interview of Seale from the San Francisco County Jail; back page illustrated with a Douglas drawing of J. Edgar Hoover depicted as a rat, holding a book titled "The Art of Kidnapping;" paper is age-tanned and folded as issued, with minor wear at the intersecting folds for what is an outstanding copy of this important issue of this newspaper.
