San Francisco, CA: The Black Panther Party Ministry of Information, October 11, 1969. FIRST EDITION. Elephant folio - 17-1/2" x 11-3/8". 20 pp. The Black Panther Black Community News Service was a weekly newspaper published by the Black Panther Party between 1967-1980. Each issue featured a range of articles and op-eds on the activities of the party, black power, police brutality, communism, and party leadership. The back of most issues featured revolutionary artwork by the graphic artist and Black Panther Minister of Culture, Emory Douglas. The front page of this issue features photographs of two Black Panther offices after having been attacked by "fascist pigs" along with the labels "OAKLAND 1969," "FASCISM" and "CHICAGO 1969." The centerfold article is titled "Eldridge Cleaver Discusses Revolution: An Interview From Exile;" additional articles include: "Attack on Chicago Office," "Pig Tricks Against Chicago Defendants" and "Vet of Nam and Danang [sic]  Exposes Military Pig Lies." The back page illustration by Emory Douglas is titled "All Power To The People / Community Control Of Police" and features a policeman portrayed as a pig, surrounded by a large group of armed black people; the paper is age-tanned and folded as issued with touches of rubbing along the fold of the front page and minor wear at the intersecting folds. The condition of the newspaper is VERY GOOD. RARE # 001142
