Newell, Peter. THE HOLE BOOK. New York: Harper & Brothers, [1908], (1908). FIRST EDITION; "Published October, 1908" on title-page verso. 8vo - 8-7/8" x 7-1/4". Blue cloth covered boards with large color pictorial paste-label applied to front cover with minor fading, soiling and wear to paste-label for what otherwise is a fine copy of the book. Plain endpapers. [52] pp. This was the first of Newell's novelty books in the same vein as The Rocket Book. The story, which is told in verse, with text printed on versos, begins with Tom Potts fooling around with a gun which accidentally goes off, smashing a French clock in the process; each text page with a full page color drawing on opposing recto for a total of twenty-four full page drawings by Newell; from the first illustration on, each page features a die-cut hole representing the bullet's path of destruction through the town; luckily by the end of the book, the bullet had come to rest without inflicting any bodily harm, the same could not be said of much of the property in Tom Potts' town; internally the book is fine. The condition of the book is VERY GOOD +. # 000792
