Casper, Wyo" as follows in its entirety: "Dear Mr. Ellison. I have your letter with check for $2.50 for which I thank you. Regarding the dead Indians, the ones in the trees, taken 1884, in June, I think - near the Grand River, South Dak - the ones burried [sic] on the scaffold - taken South West from Standing Rock Agency - North Dak - taken on the same day. I went expressley [sic] to get these two pictures - I hired a team - and was guided to the spot - never done for a Sioux to have caught me doing that. I never showed those photos at the agency to any one. At old Fort Union - north of Fort Buford - on the Montana line - [illegible] - good ones. The Indians camp close by - I was all set - they rushed at me - and drove me a way - before I had a chance to fire - always careful not to do things that would displease them. Chances and hard work getting my collection. Sincereley [sic] yours / D. F. Barry" The condition of the photographs, the mats and the portfolio is NEAR FINE. The condition of the letter is FINE.
