Orange cloth backed, color pictorial paper covered boards; the front board being 1-5/8" shorter than the back board revealing ten die-cut paper heads of the titular boys, one on each leaf of the book; back cover with words and music to a children's song; minor wear to the head of spine and minor touches of rubbing to the extremities. [20] pp.; each page's top edge die-cut in the shape of a boy's head sticking out above the main portion of the page. This German language children's picture book tells the story of ten African boys who naively explore their world with all but one of them meeting violent ends; the book is a variation of the counting rhyme, Ten Little Indians; each leaf recto illustrated in full color, each leaf verso illustrated in black and white; text printed in Sutterlin script, as was the only other known first edition copy (University of Florida); that copy was labeled "Nr. 493," whereas the copy offered in this listing is labeled "Nr. 423;" "Sutterlin-Schrift aus dem Verlag Albrecht-Durer-Haus, Berlin W8" - - Colophon; all later editions were printed in a roman typeface. The condition of the book is NEAR FINE. Only one copy printed in Sutterlin script found on WorldCat (University of Florida). RARE # 001163
